Eye of the tiger

salamendar

Last spring I visited my parent’s house in Southwest Michigan, USA. During my visit I found marvelous piles (as pictured here) of Ambystoma tigrinum, more commonly known as Eastern Tiger Salamanders, in the back garden. I was, and still am, in awe of these large amphibians (in fact the largest land-dwelling salamanders on Earth!), and was delighted to share the experience with my 3 year old niece. This little pile inspired me, so I wrote about them.
